Did you know that those incredibly, hot, steamy, relaxing showers that so many of us love can in fact totally throw your skin into disarray?
While the relaxation park of these hot showers can be so so lovely, washing our delicate facial skin under hot water can cause a lot of issues!
It can strip your natural oils
Hot water removes essential oils from the skin, leading to dryness and a compromised skin barrier.
It can cause increased sensitivity & irritation
The heat can cause redness, inflammation, and make conditions like rosacea or eczema worse.
It can lead to dehydration & tightness
Overheated skin loses moisture more quickly, leaving it feeling dry, tight, and uncomfortable.
It can cause excess oil production
Stripping too much oil can actually trigger the skin to overcompensate. This leads to excess sebum and more breakouts.
Finally, it can lead to a weakened skin barrier
Repeated exposure to hot water can damage our skin’s protective barrier, making the skin more prone to irritation, environmental damage, and aging signs.
So in order to keep our skin in check & avoid developing or exacerbating skin issues, make sure to use lukewarm water instead. This helps to maintain our skin’s delicate balance!
