Is melasma the cause of your splotchy skin?

Is melasma the cause of your splotchy skin?

Have you ever looked in the mirror and noticed some soft brown splotches on your face? maybe on the high points of your check? Your forehead? Or even across your top lip? Well if you have, it may actually be melasma.

Melasma is typically characterized by symmetrical, brownish-grey patches on the face, especially on areas like the cheeks, forehead, upper lip, and chin. Melasma is primarily caused by a combination of hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, and sun exposure.

How do you tell if what you have is melasma & not other types of hyperpigmentation?

1. Melasma typically appears as symmetrical patches of hyperpigmentation on both sides of the face, such as on the cheeks, forehead, or upper lip. This symmetrical pattern distinguishes it from other forms of hyperpigmentation, which may appear more randomly or asymmetrically.

2. Melasma is often worsened by sun exposure. You will notice the intensification almost immediately when you come in from the sun exposure.

3. Melamsa is very much connected to our hormones and hormonal changes. If you notice hyperpigmentation developing or worsening during times of hormonal fluctuations, it can suggest melasma as the underlying cause.

Now Melamsa is a tricky beast to conquer, it seems to be like a snake where you cut the head off and then 2 more appear! Melasma can be treated with things like lasers and peels, but then it can come back again! So frustrating.

So this leads me to the incredible thing I have discovered!

By 1. using sun protection daily, and TWO using ingredients that regulate our melanin production, speed up skin cell turnover and increase skin healing, we can actually help maintain our melasma free faces!

So what exactly are these ingredients?

Lustriva

Contains ingredients like kojic acid, which inhibits melanin production, and niacinamide, which boosts cell turnover and helps fade hyperpigmentation leaving you with plump & bright skin.

Pomegranate Fruit Extract

This is rich in antioxidants like ellagic acid, which help reduce oxidative stress, inhibit melanin synthesis, and promote skin regeneration.

Vitamin A

Enhances skin cell turnover, promotes collagen production, and helps fade hyperpigmentation by regulating melanin synthesis. All absolutely necessary things when it comes to managing melasma!

Licorice Root

Contains compounds like glabridin, which inhibits tyrosinase activity, reducing melanin production, and has anti-inflammatory properties that aid in skin healing.

Knotweed Root Extract

Contains resveratrol, a potent antioxidant that helps reduce oxidative stress, inhibit melanin synthesis, and promote skin repair.

Dragon's Blood Powder

Has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help protect skin cells, reduce inflammation, and support skin healing.

Probiotics

These help improve and strengthen our gut health, which indirectly benefits skin health by modulating the immune system and reducing inflammation, therefore improving our melasma.

Vitamin E

This acts as an antioxidant that protects skin cells from damage, supports skin repair and regeneration, and may help fade hyperpigmentation by promoting even skin tone.
